An elderly British man sat down for the latest installment of a horror film franchise late last night only to be found dead when the lights came up.

Pattaya City police were notified just after midnight this morning that a foreigner, later identified as a 78-year-old British national, had passed away during a late showing of Annabelle Comes Home at a Major Cineplex in the The Avenue Pattaya shopping mall.

Cinema employees said the man had bought a single ticket for the screening. They also witnessed the Briton fall prior to the start of the movie

His body has been taken to the Bang Lamung Hospital where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. Police are also currently looking into his background. Coconuts Bangkok is withholding his name until his family can be notified.

As of noon Wednesday, Lt. Col. Polapatt Thammasanong, who is heading the inquiry, was in meetings and unavailable to comment. However, another Pattaya cop, Lt. Col. Prawit Chosang, told Coconuts Bangkok this afternoon he suspects an underlying illness was the likely cause of death.
