Forget about winding down after work at Benjakitti Forest Park this week.

The APEC summit officially kicks off tomorrow and it comes with restrictions being placed throughout Bangkok, from shutting down the busy Queen Sirikit MRT station to several major road closures, as well as a number of venues being made off-limits to the public.

One of those venues, Benjakitti Forest Park, is already closed to visitors and will remain so until Saturday. The park is located next to the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, which is the main venue for the APEC summit. The park will reopen again on Sunday morning.

To ensure the summit’s security, Bangkok has also declared a “no-fly zone” prohibiting anybody from using drones unless they have been given permission from the government.

MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Center will be shut from Wednesday morning until 6pm on Saturday.

According to Gen. Damrongsak Kittiprapas, more than 30,000 police officers will be deployed throughout Bangkok to tighten security measures around the summit’s main venues and delegates’ hotels.

Anti-government groups have been given permission by City Hall to hold demonstrations around the APEC summit from Wednesday through Friday at Lan Khon Muang, near the City Hall office.

The APEC summit starts tomorrow and will end on Saturday. The capital city is expected to see heavy traffic this week due to road closures for the meeting (see a map of the affected roads here).
