Did American tourist Alex Fairfield get abducted in Bangkok?

The story of Alex Fairfield, an American tourist in Bangkok who was allegedly drugged, abducted and beaten on Sunday night have been circulating online but no one seems able to confirm the strange story.

After the reports got lots of attention due to some strange elements, the Thai police are looking into the case.

The story goes like this: Alex Fairfield 26, from Ravenna, Michigan, came to Bangkok for a two-week vacation using a Groupon, according to this story, with a man only identified as Joe. They went out for a drink on Sunday and she began to feel woozy while her friend was in the bathroom. She woke up in a strange place tied up. No word on where Joe was, she managed to loosen her ropes and escape and send some pictures to her family of her bruised arms and face.

Apparently, she did not want to make a police report because she believes that one of the men that abducted her and may have attempted to rape her was wearing a uniform, possibly a police uniform, so she did not want to file a report with the police for fear of him finding her.

Allegedly, she met up with Joe and went to the airport, but the airline had canceled her reservation and refused to let her make another one.

She allegedly went back to a hotel for a few more days while she tried to figure out how to leave the country.

Deputy national police spokesman Pol. Col. Kritsana Pattanacharoen said yesterday that police are attempting to find out what happened to Fairfield after being made aware of a story that had been published by American news channel Fox News.

All of the information in the Fox News story allegedly came from Fairfield’s family. There is a young man speaking throughout their video who is never identified but speaks as if he’s a family member.

Someone who appears to be her sister, Samantha Jo Moore, has also posted about the incident on her Facebook page.

The never refer to any of Fairfield’s family members by name, only saying odd things like “we’ve just spoken with the family,” and “they’re terrified.”

The American news story states that the family has reached out to the U.S. Embassy in Thailand and that they were assisting the woman, even going so far as to move her to a new hotel under an alias. When Coconuts reached out to the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Melissa Sweeney told us, “We are aware of recent media reports that a U.S. citizen was abducted in Thailand. Due to privacy considerations, we are unable to comment further on this case.”

The story continues that her alleged abductors attempted to rape her but they did not, despite her being restrained and drugged. The story says that she eventually got free and jumped off a balcony and hid in bushes for six hours until she could eventually get a cab.

The story says that they took her phone but apparently left her with cab fare.

According to another video and Samantha Jo Moore’s Facebook page, Fairfield has since returned to the U.S. and, in this new video, the man who is speaking on behalf of the family is finally identified as “Alex Moore,” Alex Fairfield’s brother-in-law. Her father also speaks in the new video.

They also show screenshots of a GoFundMe account with a total of almost USD9,000 raised over the last few days for the allegedly abducted but now safe girl.
