Another mounting surge in covid-19 has caused health officials to backtrack on a vow to further relax measures.

Four days after signaling restrictions would be lifted as the virus becomes endemic, the COVID task force today said it was reviewing its guidelines in the face of vanishing hospital beds.

“The new infection cases, globally, are now on a downward trend,” said spokesperson Natapanu Nopakun. “On the contrary, numbers in Asia seem to be on the rise again.”

Last call for alcohol must happen by  11pm, and the public is encouraged to dine at restaurants with SHA+ or Thai Stop Covid 2-Plus certificates (whatever that means).

People who have come into high risk contact are advised to quarantine at home for seven days followed by three days of self-monitoring.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, the government is also considering stricter measures in anticipation of people out and about on dates.

Bangkok continues to count the most new infections. New confirmed cases today totaled more than 15,000, and the number of people in the hospital has risen to 111,000 from about 30,000 just over a month ago.

The task force reassured the public that the health care system is intact.
