The American duo behind the now-deleted niche travel Instagram account traveling_butts were arrested at Don Mueang Airport last night on charges of public nudity after they posted Instagram photos of themselves with their asses out at Wat Arun.
Their actions enraged Thai people, who made the photos go viral with comments about removing them from the country, how disgusting and disrespectful the men were, how they sullied the name of their country, and even threats of assault and death.
Pol. Col. Choengron Rimpadee, immigration police deputy spokesman, confirmed that his team arrested the men at 8pm when they arrived to catch their flight out of Thailand, reported Bangkok Post.
He identified the two 38-year-old men as only Joseph and Travis, and said of them, “Tourists should have respect for places of cultural, historical and religious importance because it is simple good manners.”
The men allegedly admitted to taking the photos and were brought to Bangkok Yai Police Station. The crime of public nudity carries a fine of up to THB5,000 (about $US150).
The men were held pending an appearance before the court. However, the court of public opinion has already thrown the book at these two.
