At least 18 Twitter users have come forward to share their alleged encounters with a Bangkok cabbie they say appears “haunted” by spirits from the netherworld, ghosts inside the vehicle that only he can see as he takes his fares around the capital.
Our latest installment of “bizarre Bangkok taxi drivers” started on Sunday, when Twitter user CheezeBaek vented about his terrifying ride.
“The driver was spooky, mumbling ‘I’m so scared’ and ‘I’m about to cry’ the whole ride like he was messing with some sort of black magic,” he wrote.
“When we arrived at the destination, he simply told me to leave payment in a bowl because he was too afraid to turn around. Apparently, there was a ghost sitting with me in the back.”
Yikes.
After the tweet went viral, 17 additional netizens replied to the thread, claiming similar experiences with the same strange cabbie.
“I hailed this cab in front of Lumpini park,” commented one Twitter user. “He randomly opened the passenger door to apparently chase a ghost out. When we said we wanted to get off at Sam Yan, he told us to leave money in a bowl and to not hold on to anything… so creepy.”
Another user, meanwhile, alleged that the cabbie turned around toward the backseat and screamed at him. This happened at 2am, by the way.
“It was about 2 am… he was mumbling as if he was having a conversation with someone,” the user recalled. “If I were to move a little bit, he’d look back and scream at me and then laugh. I was terrified.”
The cabbie’s mumbling throughout the ride, as though he was talking to someone, was a common element of pretty much every story in the thread.
The tales reached their high point, however, when one woman shared footage of the mysterious cabbie she said she had taken on Sunday.
“I’m so scared,” he said, after taking a glimpse of the backseat.
