Police have yet to determine whether a man’s fatal plunge today at the CentralWorld shopping mall was an accident, according to Pathumwan district police.

The 55-year-old man had arrived at the mall with a man authorities believe was his brother, after which witnesses saw the pair taking pictures beside a seventh-floor railing just before the man fell down to the third floor, according to Lt. Krissana Kimphaisan.

He was rushed to the nearby Police General Hospital, where he was later declared dead.

An initial police identification that the deceased had been a naval officer were incorrect, according to Krissana.

He said investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the mall and questioning witnesses in order to determine the cause.

Either way, the scene has been cleaned and CentralWorld remains open.
