7-Eleven responds to photos of Thai employees eating and chilling in middle of store

CP All, the company that runs Thailand’s ubiquitous 7-Eleven convenience stores, today said they have warned employees who were photographed over the weekend eating their dinner in the middle of the store, using shopping and storage baskets for tables.

The photos have been retweeted 69,000 times since user @Plaizupang were first posted them on Saturday with the hashtag “#7-ElevenReview.”

“Doesn’t 7-Eleven train their employees? Are employees allowed to set up a table and eat in the middle of the store?” she asked, a question we have to admit was pretty solid.

“They shout profanity across the room,” she added.

The photos were taken at a 7-Eleven store near Kaset Intersection.

Some netizens expressed concern about the hygiene, as one employee (who’s not wearing her uniform) can clearly be seen standing on top of a basket used to store products that no doubt end up on shelves.

Others said that while they don’t necessarily expect first-class service in a 7-Eleven, they at least expect employees to not shout profanities in front of customers.

“If I was the owner, I’d fire them. No discipline. Image is very important for service jobs. How could you eat in the middle of the store?” @KHWisarut commented.

CP All apologized in a Facebook statement today, adding that the store in question is run by its franchise partner. Oh, and they’re not even full-time employees! All is well, we swear!

“Dear all customers, the company has been notified of the incident and has given a warning to the temporary workers in question as well as the management of the store, so that they do not repeat such action. We’ve also instructed all stores to strictly follow the rules.”
