Bangkok International Fashion Week (BIFW2019) has come round in full swing — with exclusive shows (tickets please!) in various high fashion zones across OneSiam. Lucky for us, we’ve drowned ourselves in the deep end of fashion celebration and got buzzed on the excitement, and lucky for you, we’ve made it out alive with a story and pictures to prove it.
BIFW has been Bangkok’s premier fashion event for the past decade and now, for the 12th year, presented by Siam Paragon, BIFW has not lost its magic. Fashion folks know that the name of the venue — OneSiam — encapsulates some of Bangkok’s most fashion-forward destinations, Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Discovery, into one.
We attended the event, which is on from March 28 through to March 31 in Siam Paragon, and we were on the edge of our seats, just a few feet away from the stoic stares of the models decked out in top-of-the-line designer gear.
This year’s BIFW features 10 unique, yet captivating, fashion shows from 15 fashion houses consisting of local fashion houses, enterprising new Thai designers, and international icons.
Let’s take a peek behind the curtain into BIFW’s exclusive shows — because why not.
March 28: This year kicks off with a unique collab of the feminine designs of London’s SELF- PORTRAIT and the vibrant and lustrous style of Thailand’s very own, VATANIKA — you’ve seen her YouTube show, right? Hil-ar-i-ous. The ‘After the Lovers’ collection delivered edgy looks, mostly undercut by shades of black and hot red — and lacework. If ‘lovers’ aren’t synonymous with black and red, then we must be colorblind.
Next came ISSUE who’s been there, done that — this time, bringing ‘The Day’ collection marking 20 years of history for the iconic Thai fashion house. The line radiates the feelings of joy, liveliness, and joyfulness, seen here in either a Mexican-inspired or Jaipur-derived setting, or perhaps both. By the way, see if you can spot the incredible hand-embroidered beads and sequins.
March 29: Who says guys are less fashion savvy? The second day is dedicated to all you dudes out there, featuring BOYS OF BANGKOK, a fashion collaborative between the quirky and fun Q DESIGN AND PLAY, the classic P.MITH and the vibrant colors of LEISURE PROJECT. To end the days’ proceedings, FRIDAY 27 NOV. gave everyone TGIF vibes with their ‘World of Friday’ line that cared for no rules and no fashion boundaries.
March 30: If the first 2 days were any indication of what was to come, the BIFW will definitely give everyone a run for their money and time over the weekend. The weekend lineup includes SOR-KOR-BOR WARSHIP BY PRAPAKAS, followed by the multi-labeled ABSOLUTE SIAM sharing the stage with the youthful designs of ICONIC, the masculine shapes of SIX P.M and the offbeat WONDER ANATOMIE. Day 3 comes to a close with the always-sensual MILIN FRONT ROW’s ‘Front Row’ collection taking over the runway (you couldn’t get any closer to the front row than that).
March 31: The final day is reserved exclusively for Thailand’s very own fashion icons. Opening on this day is the contemporary yet modern NAGARA, swooning the audience with ‘The Floating World’ collection that pays homage to Japanese fashion designers. Following them on the runway is PICHITA with an eye-catching ‘The Golden Hour’ line that is complex in its simplicity.
Closing the show is the abstract, architectural, and always creative TUBE GALLERY who are also celebrating their 20th anniversary on the runway — with its ‘Wearable Art‘ collection.
A lesson to take away after this year’s BIFW2019 is proving why OneSiam is, once again, the fashion destination for Thai and international designer houses.
