Tarantino fans, grab a five-dollar milkshake and bring your best movie knowledge forward.
Held concurrently with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s theatrical release in Thailand, the Tarantino Comedy Game Show is a combination of trivia night and comedy show in tribute of American film director Quentin Tarantino and his trademark style.
“All of his films have been genre mixers and [have] poetic dialogue, which is what I love about his films the most — because his words are entertaining and thought-provoking,” said Delfin Solomon, creative director of Bangkok Hilarious Comedy Club, the group that’s hosting the event.
If you’re interested in participating, be prepared to answer questions like “What novel is Jackie Brown based on?” Or “What technique does The Bride use to finally kill Bill?” So, Tarantino superfans of Bangkok, it’s your time to shine.
After the trivia rounds, some local comedians will channel the director’s razor-sharp, dark humor when they take over the stage for some stand-up.
On the connection between Tarantino and stand-up, Solomon said: “It’s the literature in his films that fit [the comedy scene in Bangkok] because what’s heard and spoken in his films are funny in a satirical and absurd way, which makes me think that all his films can be seen as comedies.”
After the comedy show, they’ll also have a Pulp Fiction-themed twist dance contest. Film fans are also welcome to dress up to their favorite characters and get a chance to win the best costume. We’re sure we’ll see at least a few Mia Wallaces and Vincent Vegas in the crowd.
Tarantino’s most recent film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is slated for release in Thai theaters on September 12.
As for the Tarantino-themed event, tickets must be purchased online in advance. Admission is priced at THB250 per person, which goes up to THB600 for those who want to include the dinner option. Group admission for six people, including dinner, is THB3,000.
The Tarantino Comedy Game Show will start at 7:30pm on September 19 at Aesop’s Bangkok, a family-run Greek restaurant in Silom.
