SILOM / BANG RAK

This riverside neighborhood offers far more than meets the eye. Decades ago, when the city’s main mode of transportation was the river, it was the city center. Today, it’s a bit removed from the main hub of Sukhumvit Road and boasts peaceful riverside hotels, bustling street markets full of trinkets and the city’s famed LGBT nightlife area, Silom Soi 4. It’s also home to Bangkok’s largest outdoor recreation area — Lumpini Park. Join the throngs of joggers, pack a picnic, rent a paddleboat or use the outdoor workout stations in this sprawling green zone. You might even catch a glimpse of one of Lumpini’s most famous residents, the monitor lizards that live in the park’s ponds. Now that’s a selfie opportunity you don’t want to miss!
