Skrillex, who popularized the wah-wah dubstep bass that became a guilty pleasure to many is hitting the decks Friday in Bangkok.
While ticket details have yet to be announced, the gig at Onyx on RCA is organized by the same promoter which booked techno legends Richie Hawtin and Sven Vath this year.
One of the most influential figures in the EDM industry, Skrillex’s unique mix of dubstep, glitch, electro house and trap music catapulted him into fame and created a controversial new sound that was felt for many years to follow. In recent years, his sound has taken on more hip-hop influences.
Earlier this month, he dropped two new songs – Rumble with Fred again and Flowdan, and Way Back with PinkPantheress and Trippie Redd.
His 2010 EP, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, turned many casuals into EDM fans and turned many would-be DJs to produce from the comfort of their bedrooms. He went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Dance Album with Bangarang, collaborated with major artists including Justin Bieber, Beyonce, and Lady Gaga, and even composed the Kingdom Hearts III video game theme with J-pop singer Utada Hikaru.
