The main residence of a historic villa belonging to the late Prince Chula Chakrabongse will be open this weekend for visitors to dine and marvel at its intricate Italian design.

The special engagement commemorates the prince’s March 28 birthday in 1908 to his father Prince Chkrabongse Bhuvananth and Ukrainian mother Catherine Desnitski, later known as Catherine Na Phitsanulok.

The antiques on display include a portrait of Prince Chula, a sculpture of his father’s favorite horse, and the desk where he wrote his autobiography complete with pictures of his car racing team.

Guided tours of the villa in Thai and English will run six times per day for groups up to 30. Additionally, attendees will dine on the villa’s terrace. Lunch and dinner options include guay tiew, khao soi, and tom yum goong.

Tickets are THB1,500 for a daytime tour and lunch or THB2,500 for an evening tour and dinner. Book via via Line or by calling 02-222-1290 or 086-987-0493.

Built by the prince’s father as a retreat from palace life, the villa was mainly used when the prince was visiting from Cornwall, where he mainly lived with his wife, Englishwoman Elizabeth “Lisba” Hunter, and daughter Mom Rajawongse Narisa Chkrabongse. He died there in 1963 at 55.

Prince Chula is best known as the author of 13 books including a history detailing the Chakri Dynasty titled Lords of Life: A History of the Kings of Thailand.
