Rock gods descending upon Bangkok for Asia International Guitar Festival

The Siam City Hotel in Bangkok is hosting the Asia International Guitar Festival 2012 from June 14-17.

Guitarists from 14 nations across the globe will give master classes, guitar exhibits and concerts. A guitar competition open to all nationalities will be held at the event with the winner receiving a free guitar, case, string set, a certificate and performance rights for four prestigious future events. Competition categories are yet to be released, but we can only hope that one involves throwing a TV out a Siam City Hotel window, rocker-style.

The master guitar class will be led by Sachico Miyashitaon on June 14 to be followed by a performance of the Gypsy Medley in the evening by well-known guitarists Galina Vale and Sakol Siripipattanakul.

The Wong-Kojorn Guitar Quarter from Thailand and the University of the Philippines Guitar Quintet are taking time out from their busy rock n roll schedules to perform.

The festival will then conclude with what is expected to be an epic duo concert by world renowned players: Yavet Boyadijev (violin) and Paul Cesarczyk (guitar). Rock on.

Concert tickets are THB600 and THB400 for adults and students, inclusive of coffee breaks. Observers of master classes and competitions pay 200 baht. The afternoon concert on June 16, costs THB300 for adults and students (with coffee break).

Let’s face it: Even guitar-playing rock gods need a coffee break sometimes.

To get you in the mood for the fest, here’s a little face-melting guitar mastery:
