6 gift ideas for the Bangkokians in your life

PRESENTED BY

The clock is ticking to wrap up that Christmas shopping list. If you are anything like us, there are still quite a few things to cross off, and stressing out over finding the right gift is half the pain of shopping this time of year. To help make things a little bit easier on your wayward soul, we’ve partnered with Siam Discovery to help you find those perfect presents for the various personality types in your life.

All of these are available now during the mall’s event: Siam Discovery Presents The Magical Sensation, Discover Extraordinary Gifts from the Universe. There will also be a host of activities happening from now until Jan. 15, 2022 — like a Christmas tree made out of eco-friendly and recycled materials as well as an augmented reality showcase you can view on your phone.

Bonus if you are a tourist: you can get an extra discount on items (between 5-30 percent at participating stores) if you sign up for a tourist card. The easiest way to do that is by following this link to the registration page.

You can also score an additional 5-percent off by shopping at Paragon Department Store.

Furthermore, if you spend B5,000 you’ll get a free B200 Siam Gift Card and a B100 Loft Coupon. Spend B7,000 you’ll get a free B400 Siam Gift Card and a B100 Loft Coupon. Make sure you check out the terms and conditions at the redemption counter, and click here for more details

The environmentalist

Where: ECOTOPIA, Siam Discovery, 3rd Floor

We all know someone (or are someone) who puts their money where their mouth is when it comes to eco-friendly products—and now is the time of year when you can hit them with a gift right in that sweet spot, and feel good about your purchase, too. ECOTOPIA at Siam Discovery is pulling out all the stops this holiday season with a range of special products (we’re talking everything from home decor to stationary and fashion items), and the brand says that everything is made with natural materials, contain no harmful chemicals and many are made with recyclable materials or at least minimal-waste production lines. This is also where you will find most of Thailand’s top upcycling brands on display.

The budding hiso

Where: Club 21

Expensive taste is, well, expensive, so if you have a budding hi-so on your Christmas list you are going to need to make every baht count to get the right gift—unless you have unlimited money on hand. To find that special gift for your friend with exuberant taste, Club 21 in Siam Discovery will help you get the most out of your time. The Singaporean luxury retailer stocks over 50 of the world’s most well-known luxury brands under one roof, so no trotting from mall to mall to nab a great deal. Some of the standouts here include Issey Miyake, Alexander Wang, 3.1 PHILLIP LIM, Jacquemus, IH NOM UH NIT, AMI, DOUBLET, and loads more. Keep in mind that this is a fashion retailer, so don’t expect to find other luxury items like watches or gadgets inside.

The trendsetter

Where: Her Lab, G Floor, or His Lab, M Floor

You might not have a friend who spends B100,000 on a bag, but we all have that one friend or family member who seems to wear a new brand every time we see them. If that friend is into ladies’ fashion, consider heading to Her Lab on the G Floor of Siam Discovery to sift through countless trending brands across all kinds of fashion and accessory categories. We’re talking brands like Ganni, Stine Goya, Yaya, Baum Und Pferdgarten, Modstrom, Second Female, and Tela. For the dudes out there, His Lab is located on the M Floor and carries names like Ader Error, Ambush, Foret, Samsoe Samsoe, Wood Wood, Universal Works, and White Mountaineering. Those are all on the core fashion side, for accessories, bags and shoes, check out Suicoke, Veja, Danse Lente, Hvisk, Scotria, and Yuzefi—you will also find them on M Floor.

Don’t forget, if you grab a Tourist Card (register here) you can earn even more discounts as you shop this holiday season. Spend B5,000 and you’ll get a free B200 Siam Gift Card and a B100 Loft Coupon. Spend B7,000 you’ll get a free B400 Siam Gift Card and a B100 Loft Coupon. On top of this, you can earn 5-30% in discounts when showing your card at participating stores. Make sure you check out the terms and conditions at the redemption counter, and click here for more details

The buy localzealot

Where: ICONCRAFT

This might be our favorite category because we’re big supporters of local brands—so if you are buying a gift for someone at BK here is your category. In terms of Siam Discovery, your best bet is to head over to ICONCRAFT. Originally started as part of ICONSIAM (you could probably tell by the name) Siam Discovery now has its own ICONCRAFT on the 3rd floor. The huge space is dedicated exclusively to Thai brands, and leans heavily towards the artisanal and small producer side of things. This is where you will find a lot of home décor, fashion and accessories that use regional techniques from across different provinces in the Kingdom. It’s a great chance to not only support local brands, but also learn a little bit about the very talented designers and craftspeople who live in Thailand.

The aspiring creative

Where: Objects of Desire Store

Finding new items for the aspiring creative in your life is a tall order—just like fashion, it’s a tricky balance of knowing their taste and also adding the element of surprise. A good place to give this a shot is at Objects of Desire Store (ODS) is a 620-square-meter mega-space dedicated to all manner of items: candles, cutting boards, bags, ceramic pots, essential oils, home decor, aromatherapy products, lighting, pillows, notebooks, tableware, furniture, you get the idea. If you can do some recognizance and figure out what your friend is into, there is a good chance you will be able to find something that works here.

The opportunist shopper

Where: New pop-up shops

Talk to people that shop like an alcoholic drinks beer and they will tell you a lot of their best finds come down to being at the right place at the right time (a sale, a pop-up, or stumbling into a store no one knows about). You might not have the time to hunt around Bangkok for days to find the right gift for these people, but over the holidays Siam Discovery is hosting pop-up stores by some of the most popular brands trending across social media, and some collaborations that might make you smile. Fashion brand Wood Wood is teaming up with Garfield (yes, the cat cartoon) to release a range of items featuring the world’s favorite orange cat. Speaking of cartoons, Carebears have joined forces with Japanese home supply store Loft on a series of cute home décor items. There are also standalone pop-up stores from Soul4Street, a curated selection of streetwear, and Sretsis Café.
