¿Estan listos? A fiesta of tacos is coming to town in the form of 15 taco specials across 15 days at 15 restaurants in Bangkok.
The lineup of participating restaurants is a who’s who of the city’s top taco joints: The Missing Burro, Barrio Bonito, La Cocina, Tacos and Salsa, Cholos, Ms. Maria and Mr. Singh, La Lupita, Tortilla Quemada, Express Mexican Food, El Mariachi, La Monita, The Mexican, Slanted Taco, Casa Azul and El Mexicano.
The details are still scant, but taco fans can expect to fill up on everything from carne guisada (pork shoulder simmered with tomatoes, bell pepper, onion, garlic, and seasonings) at The Mexican and pork belly carnitas at La Monita to pork birria (slow-stewed meat) and vegetarian tacos at Cholos.
Not all that long ago, some may be hard-pressed to find more than a handful of restaurants in the city serving quality tacos representing the whole of Mexico rather than insipid Tex-Mex fare. The sheer number and variety of venues taking part in Taco Fest, as well as support from the Embassy of Mexico, speaks to the rapid growth of this segment of the restaurant scene.
According to the organizers, prizes will be given away daily, and if attendees register online, they will be able to collect and redeem points for extra goodies.
Taco Fest BKK runs Nov. 1 to Nov. 15 at several venues. More details are available online.
