We know that Thai summer is peaking, and it’s going to be hot as balls at the end of this week. But one Thai cooking blogger decided to “steak” his own reputation on the heat by attempting to cook steak and eggs in a skillet placed in a car in the sun during midday Bangkok heat.

SchwedaKong, a well-known Thai cooking Facebook page posted the results of their experiment featuring pictures of a beautifully cooked medium-rare pork steak with fried eggs.

The cooking method? They swear that they just left the raw food in the hot car from 1-4:30pm and let the sun do kitchen duty.

While the temperature outside is hovering between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius in the afternoons, it would be much hotter inside a sealed car, as high as 56 degrees Celsius.

In the past, this same page also successfully boiled an egg in a car, reported The Nation.

The admin for the page did warn others that the heat inside a car may be enough to cook food but may not be high enough to kill bacteria and the food could make you sick if bacteria was present.

However, in this case, the page states that the pork was cooked well and the egg is as solid as if your favorite street food aunty had fried it herself.

Who knows, if all our street food does disappear and this heat keeps up, maybe this could be a viable option for future cheapie lunches?
