Swensen’s new flavor mixes green mango, fish sauce and dried shrimp

It’s peak mango season, indeed. When it comes to the popular tropical fruit staple in much of Southeast Asia, people are going crazy about it. So are the F&B tastemakers looking to capture the market.

Recently casual, fast ice-cream chain Swensen’s released a unique new flavor: mamuang nam pla wan, or green mango with chili fish dipping sauce.

The dish is a traditional Thai dessert that comes with tart green mango slices and a sweet-and-spicy pungent dipping sauce that contains fish sauce, dried shrimp, chili, sugar and shallots.

Swensen’s new item serves icy scoops of green mango sorbet topped with nam pla wan sauce. Another cup of deep fried shallots and chunks of dried shrimp come separate for mixing.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, the ice-cream chain’s hundreds of branches nationwide are only offering takeaway or delivery service via 1112 Delivery or Swensen’s official website.
