Although the Bangkok weather gods have been giving us nice, strong breezes amid steady rainfall for the past few weeks, no amount of cool weather can ever stop us from having an icy treat.

Last week, Canadian fast casual chain Swensen’s released a new menu item that’s only available in Thailand, called Toast on Fire.

The dish is comprised of thickly-sliced pieces of toast and ice cream on a sizzling plate. Once it’s served on the table, customers are asked to quickly pour over the accompanying sweet sauce while the pan is still piping hot.

The Toast on Fire is available in three flavors: the Chocolate Sizzling Plate (chocolate chip ice cream, chocolate sauce, toast, whipped cream and almonds, THB129), the Strawberry Toast Sizzling Plate (strawberry ice cream, vanilla sauce, toast, whipped cream and almonds, THB129) and the Green Tea Red Bean Toast Sizzling Plate (green tea ice cream, sweet red bean paste, green tea sauce, whipped cream and almonds, THB149).

The special menu item takes 15 minutes to prepare. It is currently available at over 130 Swensen’s branches nationwide, except some branches in Koh Samui and Phuket.

It’s not the first time the chain has put ice cream on a sizzling hot plate — a couple of years ago, Swensen’s in Malaysia launched the Apple Crumble and Banana Crumble on a sizzling skillet.
