The Steakhouse Co: Upscale new steakhouse offers a new kind of meat market in Patpong

The Patpong section of Silom might be best known as a red-light district, a seedy but fun late night destination that offers little in the way of high-quality food but a plethora of other unmentionable vices.

The Steakhouse Co. plans to change that. The new steakhouse recently jumped into the fray of this nightlife area with their upmarket meat eatery, located near the mouth of Patpong Soi 2, just steps away from Foodland supermarket, in a space that, sources tell us, used to be a go-go bar called The Electric Blue.

Today the space is focusing on selling USDA Angus prime, and Black Angus and Wagyu beef from Australia. The classy, hip-looking joint features dark leather seats, exposed brick walls, a long bar, and red mood lighting. It has an outdoor area overlooking the soi where you can eat, drink, smoke, or watch the talent walk by.

Though the meat here is sourced from Japan, Australia, and the US, the staff tells us that it’s focused on preparing it in classic French-style, served with rich, traditional sauces and veg-heavy sides.

The kitchen is headed by Chef Krittin Kerdnaimongkol, a Thai chef who cut his meat-cooking teeth at hotel steakhouses in Canada, as well as cooking aboard American cruise ships. He also used to head the kitchens at Bangkok’s Ce La Vi and Hua Hin’s Dusit Thani resort.

We stopped by the steakhouse recently, to get a taste of what it has on offer.

After a mimosa and a mixed cold cut platter with cheese, baguette, nuts and tomato confit (THB365), we tried the 270-day, grain-fed Australian Black Angus Tenderloin with sautéed potatoes, creamed spinach, and Béarnaise sauce (THB1,750 for 250 grams). The deeply savory cut was well-cooked and impressively tender.

Next up was the Australian Wagyu ribeye (THB1,625 for 250 grams), with a marble score of 6 plus, served up alongside ramekins of garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, and green pepper sauce. The juiciness of the steak was set off well by the freshness of the whole green peppers in the sauce.

For those not in the mood for beef, they have several options such as lamb chops, chilled seafood platters, lobster, and salmon fillet. We tried the salmon with potatoes and green pepper hollandaise sauce (THB615) and found it healthy and delicious, and a much lighter option for those not feeling ultra carnivorous.

In desserts, there’s this very rich chocolate mousse (THB185), with the top surface layer finished with a thin layer of caramelized sugar (not unlike a creme brûlée). Alternatively, there are shots of house-made digestifs, too. We tried the caramel vodka variety, which was super smooth and gave a pleasantly sweet, soft burn (in a good way) on the way down.

All in all — a great place to get your strength up for a night of fun in Silom, or stop by on your way home (they close at midnight) for some nourishment and replenishment after the fun is finished.
