Bendito: Soi Sukhumvit 49 now has tacos y churros

Finally, a Mexican place with a Philly cheesesteak? It used to be difficult to get Mexican tacos in Bangkok, but now we’re spoiled for choice — La Monita, Tacos & Salsa, El Hefe, and Charley Brown’s, when it’s not on fire. Well, a new place opened in Soi Sukhumvit 49 is making some very bold menu choices for diners who want to indulge without breaking the bank.

In the kitchen is Oscar Perez Garcia from Mexico City, who worked in the Mexico City Sheraton and Spain before finding his way to Bangkok. As ingredients go, the venue is proud of the quality of its beef and for good reason.

If you’re a taco fanatic, get the beef on the Mexi Taco for the Australian slow cooked beef (THB129) with bell peppers, coriander, and onion, but if you want veggie or chicken you can walk out paying THB79 a taco. The Yankee Tacos feature mixed cheese, lettuce, corn, tomato and sour cream, and the beef runs at THB149.

The queso here is top-notch so just grab the chips and cheese sauce (THB175) for a quick side.

As insane as it first seems, this taco joint swears by its Philly cheesesteak. More than that we can swear by the pulled pork grilled cheese (THB269)—which is not something you can often say about a Mexican restaurant.

Vegans and vegetarians won’t be left out either. The place has veggie options and said more plant-based dishes will launch next week.

For dessert, absolutely do not forget the churros, which are exceptionally moist. Eat them while they’re hot in the custard or hazelnut dipping goodness.

While relying mainly on delivery in these days of COVID-19, the spot on Thonglor has a delightfully airy and kitschy desert vibe, good for a group setting. The tortillas are not homemade just yet, but Bendito told Coconuts Bangkok they are on the case.

Bendito Taco is located on Soi Sukhumvit 49 next to Villa Market supermarket. It’s open 11am to 10pm every day.
