2 schoolgirls drown in Bangkok canal after being pushed by male classmate

An 11-year-old boy claimed he was “just playing” after he allegedly killed two girls by kicking them off a pier into a Bangkok canal and stomping on their hands when they tried to hold on to the pier for their lives yesterday.

In the tragic incident yesterday, the bodies of two fifth graders Piyapat Pertpong, 11 and Supawadee Warathum, 12, were retrieved from Prawet Burirom canal after they were allegedly kicked into a canal by their classmate and drowned.

According to Piyapat’s 9-year-old brother who witnessed the scene, the two girls were relaxing at the pier before their male classmate, whose identity has been withheld, kicked them off the pier from behind.

The younger brother said that as Piyapat tried to hold on to the pier for her life, the boy stomped on her hand. She was forced to let go and drowned along with Supawadee.

The little brother called for help from locals nearby, leading to a search for the two girls. When they were pulled from the canal, paramedics sadly could not revive them.

Piyapat’s father Piyapawat Pertpong broke down after seeing his daughter’s lifeless body. Piyapawat said he asked the boy why he did it.

The boy’s answer answer? He was “just playing.”

Police will call the 11-year-old murder suspect along with his guardian for questioning. Other multidisciplinary officials will also take part in questioning of the boy, Kom Chad Luek reported.
