Singaporeans and Malaysians have long debated which country has the best iteration of Nasi Lemak. Now, a new Malaysian eatery has opened in Singapore so everyone can be the judge of the famous dish.

Consisting of fragrant coconut rice, chilli, anchovies, egg and either a fried fish or chicken, the Malaysian-style Nasi Lemak normally comes with more options, such as the dry beef curry better known as Beef Rendang — one of many Nasi Lemak combinations you can now try in Singapore at the Uptown Malaysian Nasi Lemak eatery at 121 Telok Ayer Street.

The store is owned by two guys hailing from Malaysia’s Petaling Jaya. Mervyn Koh and Simon Phun promise to serve the ultimate sample of Malaysian Nasi Lemak, with inspiration taken from some of the best joints in the Damansara Uptown community.

“There, you can find nasi lemak in all forms and combinations that can satiate your cravings for weeks,” the duo wrote on their website. “From award-winning nasi lemak specialty restaurants to the car boot establishments, from tried traditional recipes to the jaw-dropping Alaskan king crab variety, choices are staggering, but hey, that is just how it is.”

Some of the options available include Nasi Lemak with Spiced Fried Chicken (from S$5.50), Nasi Lemak with Sambal Fish (S$7.50), and Nasi Lemak with Rendang Beef (S$7.50).

Details of an upcoming food delivery service will be announced at a later date.
