If you’re yearning for a peaceful respite from the never-ending business of work, perhaps a serene sail down a quiet river is just what your overworked self needs. Newly launched by cruise company Mekong Kingdoms is its uber exclusive two-cabin river cruiser, Gypsy — and its maiden Mekong River voyage, which takes you between the UNESCO World Heritage Laotian city of Luang Prabang and Thailand’s Golden Triangle.

Floor-to-ceiling windows and open sun decks on the 41m-long boat ensure you make the most of the languorous journey, while the wood and thatch interiors create quite the cozy, homely space, styled with bamboo daybeds, handwoven ornaments, and dark woven leather seats.
For those who can’t take the heat, fret not, for the sleeping cabins are air-conditioned, with king bed and twin bed rooms, plus all the usual hotel amenities.

You can opt for two or three nights of private luxury (for up to four passengers), where you’ll spend the days going on shore excursions such as guided jungle treks, mountain biking in Ban Houy Phalam, freshwater fishing, Laos whisky tastings, traditional weaving workshops at Ban Baw, exploring the Pak Ou caves, and visiting a lesser-known elephant camp in Pak Beng.

Back on the waters, guests can also try yoga sessions and folk dancing classes on board the cruiser, which offers quite the first class experience. At the communal mid-ship lounge and bar is where you can recline with a good book and a drink in hand, while the veranda-style lounge and alfresco deck at the boat’s bow make for the tranquil spot to enjoy a champagne afternoon tea.
Once the sun sets, you can drink in views of nature’s finest with a round of cocktails, or head to the dining area to sample dishes by the chef on board.

Having said all that, indulgence certainly comes at a cost. And this one has a price tag that starts from US$5,450 for a four-day, three-night cruise from Luang Prabang to the Golden Triangle.
Sorry if we burst any travel fantasy bubbles with that. If it’s any consolation, the rate includes all on-board meals for up to four guests, beverages including beer and selected wines, shore activities, return airport or hotel transfers, and yes, even Wi-Fi.
