A hotel to open next year in Ho Chi Minh City has a highly unusual theme. The Darwin hotel takes inspo from the English naturalist and biologist responsible for theories on all life originating from common ancestors.
Not monkeying around, it’s set to open in the summer of next year. Darwin hotel will be in the city’s central District 1, close to the opera house and other tourist attractions.
If an evolution-themed stay appeals and natural selection seems to be working for you, you can grab a suite with your partner, perfect for a bit of practice for furthering the species. Next, guests can get some nourishment at the in-house restaurant, Origins, which will serve cuisine inspired by Charles Darwin’s life and journeys.
Still looking for a mate? You can check in and head downstairs to Beagle Bar to see if any courtship rituals can be performed. In the bar, visitors can listen to live spoken-word poetry and order historically-inspired rum drinks and Vietnamese craft beers.
The Darwin hotel isn’t designed to be a one-off but the first in a chain called Fusion Originals. Each will look completely different and be themed after a world-changing artist, inventor, scientist, or leader. But we’re guessing (hoping) none will be Hitler-themed.
The Darwin project, an 88-room affair, is done in neutral tones — think flax and brown — and natural textures — like burlap and bamboo. Darwin’s 19th century studies of plants, animals, and human evolution will be reflected in details like botanical art and gardens. Versions of some of his more famous texts will appear larger-than-life on walls.
Fusion’s chief architect, Remco de Hoog, said “World-changing ideas are what Fusion is all about. Charles Darwin is the perfect person to launch this exciting, slightly rebellious all-new brand.”
At the end of a Ho Chi Minh City day, the hotel provides a place to put struggles for existence aside, kick back, and pick up some reading material. There’s no bible, of course, but each room comes with a copy of On the Origin of Species.
