Think of The Camp in Chiang Mai as glamping for those on an entry-level salary or people that can’t do without at least a few creature comforts.

The three-year-old camp in Northern Thailand, beloved by local millennials, re-opens for its third camping season on Nov.16 and stays open through Jan. 26, 2019 after closing and doing upgrades and repairs during the rainy season.

The remote, bucolic spot is just on the outskirts of Chiang Mai, meaning it’s doable in a weekend for Bangkokians since flights take an hour and can be had for well under THB3,000 (US$93) round trip.

The Camp offers natural-colored canvas tents held up by local bamboo poles with white, gray, and bamboo fittings inside the and all the fairy lights your social media fans can handle.

As these upscale campsites seem to do, they offer a tent but, other than that, it’s not much like camping. You get a real bed, tables, squishy pillows, lamps, electricity, and wifi. They even have an outdoor clothes rack. They draw the line at aircon, however — you have to make do with vintage-looking black fans instead.

However, if you haven’t spent time in Chiang Mai at year’s end, rest assured that the weather during The Camp’s season is temperate and can even be chilly at night.

They offer rooms for two with full or twin beds. They also have a family room that sleeps four and a tent called “Gang Room” that’s shaped like a circus tent and features black bean bags, floor loungers and looks like it sleeps about six (or maybe more depending on what kind of gang you are).

The rooms are also outfitted with fresh flowers and include a free outdoor breakfast. Guests can order food and drink from The Camp until 10pm. We guess this would be known as “tent service.” Perhaps?

They also have nightly, family-style barbecues — but for an additional fee, depending on how many people are in your party.

The bathrooms are shared, but they provide hot water for their showers as well as outdoor soaking tubs.

Tents go fast here, so if you want to go this season, get on that reservation-making.

Here’s a tip: They say that bookings for the upcoming season don’t start until Oct. 5, but we just tried and the site let us book a room today. Just sayin’.
