The island nation of Mauritius will soon be home to a new Anantara hotel when the luxury property opens on the South Eastern coast at the end of 2019.

Part of an integrated coastal development, just a couple minutes’ drive away from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, Anantara Mauritius Resort will sit near Blue Bay Marine Park. The nature spot is a protected marine park with coral reefs that are often explored by visiting snorkelers and divers.

Across the resort, 164 guest rooms and suites will be housed on the grounds, with eight luxury pool villas to be added in the first half of 2020. It’s designed by Australia’s Ground Kent Architects, as a joint effort with the Office of Global Architecture in Mauritius and Thailand’s Abacus Design interior designers.

Influenced by the architectural heritage of capital Port Louis, the premises feature natural, locally-sourced materials like basalt and volcanic stone, drift wood, and sandy colors, offering a relaxing hangout with tropical vibes in a modern setting.

There’s plenty to keep you occupied and well-fed here, too. Besides a 30m-long “ozone-based” swimming pool, a gym, a kids’ club, and an Anantara Spa, the resort is home to a specialty grill and seafood restaurant called Sea.Fire.Salt, as well as a private dining room with a wine cellar, a café focused on healthy foods, and two bars. Cuisines range from Asian to African influences with ingredients harvested and caught locally.

Anantara is also making a green pledge to sustainability by using solar technology for water heating in the guest rooms, planting endemic flora on hotel grounds, reusing water for irrigation and cleaning, adding recycled materials in the décor, and banning the use of plastic straws.

Other activities you can do on the island include deep-sea fishing, hiking bird-watching trails, snorkeling, golfing, and exploring historical sites.
