WATCH: Singapore’s distant future imagined as an underground city

In the distant future, the only way up is down according to this highly conceptualised video done up by Finbarr Fallon, a student at the Bartlett School of Architecture.

If you think current Singapore is pretty sci-fi as it is, wait till you watch Fallon’s vision below, which imagines the city-state digging deep downwards to accommodate the exploding population and pollution.

Subterranean Singapore 2065 from Fin F on Vimeo.

Fallon’s project explores Singapore’s “subterranean ambitions to suggest an imagined masterplan and spatial typology for deep-level underground living”, according to his description. All is not well underground though, as the utopia down below gets sabotaged by unhappy labourers, who are subjected to substandard living standards. Huh, not too far from reality then.
