Surely you’ve heard of Pavitr Prabhakar, the star of Marvel’s Spider-Man: India, but little did we know that a similar hero has been living in our midst.
Witness his spectacular (albeit a little awkward) acrobatics as he climbs up the second floor of a HDB block at Jurong East Street 32 to rescue a young toddler stuck in metal railings.
The footage was sent to popular local blogger Alvin Lim of Alvinology. The man’s daring rescue took place yesterday afternoon, after a passerby spotted the baby bawling for help after getting stuck between the rails of the bedroom’s parapet.
Prior to the man’s parkour-driven rescue attempt, some people even went upstairs to knock on the flat’s door, but no-one responded — which sheds some seriously negative light on security in the household.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived later on and managed to free the child — but if it wasn’t for this Spider-Man, the child probably wouldn’t have survived the hanging. We salute you good sir.
Reportedly, the SCDF is trying to locate and identify the foreign worker, and will be giving him an award. Good thing citizen Jona Pang had the presence of mind to talk to our mysterious hero. His name is Shanmuganathan and Pang says he “deserves more recognition for what he did for saving a life,” reports The Straits Times.
According to the report, Shammugun says he is from Chennai, India, and “carried on with his work after the act and smiled shyly when Ms Pang thanked him.”
