Video: Cult rapper Akeem Jahat raps a verse from his tribute to his Woodlands hometown

If you’re a hip-hop fan living in the north and haven’t heard of the name Akeem Jahat, time you pay your respects, son. 

Versatile, ingenious and unabashedly proud of his Woodlands hometown, the rapper has been making waves in the local hip-hop community, and it’s not hard to see why. Weaving between Malay and English rhymes, Akeem has been garnering fans across Southeast Asia with his effortless flow and delivery heard through glorious mixtapes Suke Hati Nenek / Akeemotheraphy and SeluDOPE

Watch and be proper impressed by his mad rap skills in this Soi Music TV video, where he performs a segment from his crowd favourite — a tribute to Woodlands called… ‘Woodlands’. For non-Malay language speakers, just know that he makes several smart ‘hood references including Gambas Avenue, neighbouring Johor Bahru, the Civic Centre McDonald’s, the North-South train line and the An-Nur mosque.
