Seven-minute-long lesbian sex scene cut from ‘Blue is the Warmest Color’ in Singapore

2013 Palm D’or-winning film Blue is the Warmest Color has been rated R21 by the Media Development Authority (MDA), with the consumer advice of ‘homosexual content’.

MDA’s film classification database has revealed that the French movie by writer-director Abdellatif Kechiche will have a seven-minute long lesbian sex scene — where “the two protagonists appear naked and engaged in various sexual activities, including oral sex and masturbation” — cut for Singapore cinemas.

Based on a graphic novel by Julie Maroh, the film revolves around the intense relationship between 15-year-old Adele, who is experiencing love for the first time, and Emma, an older art student whom she met on the street.

Blue is the Warmest Color opens in cinemas islandwide on May 1.
