Soft pastel colors aren’t what we’d usually associate with Singapore’s landscapes — a panorama that’s typically filled with steel-gray futuristic structures and old buildings in the process of being torn down.
Successfully capturing the nostalgic spirit of old Singapore in washed out colors is local photographer Nguan, in his ongoing project simply entitled “Singapore”. By honing in and enhancing the pastel colors of the city’s various landmarks, people and quiet alcoves, Singapore becomes a theatrical set of sorts, artfully painted for a stage fit for any Wes Anderson flick.

“I’m doing more for the country’s image overseas than our tourist promotion board,” said Nguan in an interview with Citylab. “I’m a better liar than they are.”

From brutalist architecture to lonely souls; traffic accidents to ruined buildings, the environment becomes a hypnotic stream of oddities, quirks and vivid life, despite the desaturated chromaticism. See his whole project on his website and stay updated on his Instagram feed.
