A Singaporean rapper popularly known as Yung Raja revealed today that both of his parents have tested positive for COVID-19.

The rapper, whose real name is Rajid Ahamed, apologized to those who may have been put at risk of contracting the disease by coming into contact with him, although he did not say whether he had also fallen ill.

“I sincerely apologise to all that have been in contact with me recently. Please get yourselves tested and stay safe. Much love,” the 26-year-old artist said.

All those identified as close contacts of an infected person have to isolate at home 10 days and test negative for the virus.

The rapper’s announcement came after Singapore reported a one-day record of 3,486 new COVID-19 cases and nine more deaths last night, a sign that the latest coronavirus wave was charging full speed ahead as renewed anxieties blanket the city-state despite its high vaccination rate. The health minister said that numbers may hit 5,000 by the end of next week.

Friends were quick to show support for the Mami rapper who got a shout-out from U.S talk show host Jimmy Fallon in July.

“Oh man. Sorry to hear this. Sending prayers to you and your family,’ actress Carla Dunareanu said.

“Speedy recovery brother. Sending love to your family,” musician Sezairi Sezali commented.

The virus has spread throughout Singapore’s towns and residences, according to a new map of infections set up by the Health Ministry, but mostly outside the worker dormitories where the center of infections was last year.
