From 10am to 10pm today, members of the public can pay their last respects to the late S R Nathan during the Lying In State at Parliament House.
The State Flag will be draped over his casket (with the crescent and stars lying over the head and close to the heart) and his various medals will be displayed. Vigil Guards will do their jobs by staying vigil at each corner of the casket — said to be the highest form of respect accorded to the deceased.

If you’ve paid respects to the late Lee Kuan Yew last year, it’ll be pretty much the same thing — enter the Padang via St Andrew’s Road from City Hall MRT Station. Expect long queues again as there will be security screening stations at the Promenade before entry to the Parliament House. Feel free to catch Pokémons while waiting, but it’s probably best for everyone to refrain from doing so in Parliament House, even if there’s a wild Dragonite nearby.

It’s best not to drive in the vicinity of the civic district these couple of days, considering the traffic closure of multiple roads and lanes.

The state funeral service for the former president will be held from 3pm onwards on Friday at the NUS University Cultural Centre, followed by a private cremation at Mandai Crematorium.
Meanwhile, you can still pay tribute to the man on the Remembering S R Nathan microsite. And check out how he saved the day in Singapore’s first brush with international terrorism back in the ’70s.
