Yet another local agency cries foul over ‘idea recycling’

Last week, branding agency Relay Room complained that W Singapore Sentosa Cove had ripped off their red packet design for the Lunar New Year. After a mini outburst on their Facebook page, co-founder Sarah Cheng-De Winne assured they were already in discussion with the hotel about a settlement.

On Jan. 13, another agency DoodleRoom took to Facebook.

The photo above compares the Singapore Art Week Guide DoodleRoom had done for the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in 2013, and the same guide published this year. The covers are almost exactly the same.

Said the agency on their Facebook post, “we are very disappointed to find out that the Singapore Tourism Board has decided to recycle our work wholesale for this year, without informing us at all”.

They added that the original design — theirs — had taken a lot of work, what with the complex way of presenting all the Singapore Art Week info, and had received email compliments.

In the same post, DoodleRoom accused STB of “bullying an independent agency” and not promoting the culture of protecting creative and intellectual property.
