Yet another dead cat found at the foot of a Tampines HDB block

Several months ago, the district of Yishun and Sembawang repeatedly appeared in headlines for all the wrong reasons — multiple, seemingly unending cases of cruelty to stray cats.

Now it seems that Tampines might be taking over the horrible title of being a district rife with cat abuse. In the latest of such cases in the housing estate, another cat was found dead at the foot of a HDB block.

On Sunday morning, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) were alerted to the body of a white cat at the foot of Block 889 along Tampines Street 81, Channel NewsAsia reports.

“The cat appears to be a house cat as it is a pedigree and well groomed, but we cannot say for sure,” said SPCA Executive Director Dr Jaipal Singh Gill. No one has stepped forward to claim ownership of the cat however.

Dr Gill however is not suggesting foul play, advising that cat owners living in apartments should install mesh on their window grills for their pets’ safety.

Earlier this month, a 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing a cat at Block 884 along Tampines Street 83, where a witness saw him slamming the cat onto the ground twice before trying to burn it with a lighter. Before that incident, a black cat was found dead at a block right next to it.

In nearby Pasir Ris, a cat was found severely injured, — a witness saw a boy beating it up.
