National Day anthems these days are hard to be as memorable as classics such as Kit Chan’s ‘Home’, ‘One People, One National, One Singapore’ or even ‘Count On Me, Singapore’, so we guess this year’s one is pretty okay.
Simply titled ‘Our Singapore’, Dick Lee’s latest contribution takes on a bit more sombre tone, accompanied by an Eric Khoo-directed music video that takes a look back at 50 years of nation building.
It’s certainly a lot more memorable than the National Day theme songs of recent years, which are really just failed attempts at being ‘youthful’ and ‘hip’ but ending up as clearly ‘cringeworthy’.
Last year’s one tried to make past Singapore idols relevant again, and they did a oddly messy contemporary mash-up of past classics.

2013’s theme song and music video looked like a corporate video. Don’t forget that fucking awkward rap interlude that was certainly relevant… in the ’90s.

2012’s song was probably an R&B ballad hit song in 2001.

2011’s song is so Celine Dion.

In 2009, they actually roped in local band Electrico to craft the National Day Song, which was actually not too shabby — but everyone totally forgot about after Aug 9.

Let us know which other NDP theme songs were really painful to hear and watch!
