Let’s talk about this year’s National Day Parade Funpack. Us Singaporeans love free stuff, even if everything’s in patriotic shades of red and white. Of course, the translucent waterproof pack comes in those exact colours — anything else would be a crime. And since the theme for NDP 2016 is “Building Our Singapore of Tomorrow”, the bag of goodies is geared towards the future. It’s stocked with 18 items, including little trinkets like a luggage tag, a scarf and an NDP 16 logo card. Here’s a look.
To recap, here are the highlights of the Funpack:
- An LED wristband, perfectly synchronised with the lights and sounds of the show, for you to do some energetic fist-pumping (Jersey Shore-style) to the beats of ‘Home’.
- A Singapore flag, ’cause you never know when the once-in-a-year moment of ultimate patriotic feels will hit you, and you’ll wanna have something to distract others from the tears welling up in your eyes.
- A souvenir magazine embedded with digital content. First you gotta download the NDPeeps App on your mobile device, and you’ll be endlessly entertained by the augmented reality images and videos available. One such cool trick is a 3D time-lapse video of the National Stadium’s evolution into an NDP-ready space.
- A face tattoo in the shape of the Singapore flag, just in case your followers on social media didn’t realise you struck gold at the NDP ticket lottery.
- A discount booklet, probably to encourage you to go to Orchard and save the shops from dying out.
- Snacks like Hello Panda biscuits, roasted peanuts and candy, to prevent you from turning into a hangry monster.
- A litter bag, ’cause we haven’t proven ourselves capable of cleaning up after a big event.
About 300,000 Funpacks will be available, and they’ll be placed at spectator seats instead of collection points this year.
