Budget high-tech smartphone company from China Xiaomi, announced on Feb. 19 that they will be setting up their international headquarters (HQ) in Singapore.
According to an article by online forum Hardware Zone, the HQ will start off as a small office, overseen by vice president of Xiaomi Global Hugo Barra from his Beijing post. The company plans to launch future products here, as well as build a logistics centre, a walk-in service centre, as well as a development team to work with region-specific feedback on their MIUI operatin system. Hardware Zone also believes that Xiaomi won’t be opening a retail store in Singapore anytime soon.
Xiaomi’s new international set-up follows the announcement of their launching the Redmi phone, which will happen on Feb. 21 at noon on their online shop. Telcos M1, Singtel and Starhub are said to be in talks with the company about selling the Redmi.
In addition, Xiaomi has announced that their flagship phone the Mi3 will be available for sale in Singapore March 7. It will cost $419 without contract.
