Worker falls from height through HDB rubbish chute in Bukit Merah

No idea how he ended up there, but a migrant worker carrying out works at a Bukit Merah HDB block fell from height through a rubbish chute.

The injuries he sustained from the fall looked pretty bad — a picture uploaded by the Advocatus Safety Consultants Facebook page showed that the impact broke his legs.

Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers were alerted to the incident at Block 8 Jalan Rumah Tinggi last Saturday morning, where they discovered the victim inside the rubbish chute on the ground floor. Reportedly in his 20s, he was said to have been found inside a one man cage.

The victim was freed from the cage using a hydraulic cutter and conveyed to the National University Hospital later on.

The New Paper reported that the man was part of a team subcontracted by ATC Painting and Trading, which had been carrying out repairs and redecoration works at the block. According to a contractor from the company, the man was lining the inner walls of the rubbish chute when the accident happened — but it’s still unclear how high he fell from.
