A teacher at a preschool in Woodlands has been arrested following her dismissal after videos surfaced online of her allegedly abusing children.
Three videos, taken on separate occasions, show the teacher handling the children roughly. In one video, she is seen forcefully holding back the head of a wailing child as she forces them to drink water. In another, she is seen pouring water into the mouth of a child, who was lying down on the floor.
The third video shows the teacher shouting at a child and repeatedly hitting them with a book.
The teacher’s face, as well as the faces of the children she appeared to have abused, were pixelated in videos that have circulated widely online.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Early Childhood Development Authority (ECDA) launched an investigation into the incidents after receiving a report on Monday, leading to the teacher’s arrest today.
The teacher, identified by police as a 33-year-old woman, has also reportedly been fired by the preschool.
The teacher is set to be charged in court tomorrow for the ill-treatment of a child or young person. She may face up to eight years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to S$8,000 (USD5,900), or both.
