In an intense rescue, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) saved a woman who was standing shakily on an 11-story HDB railing for almost two hours. The incident, which occurred during a heavy downpour at Block 289 Yishun Avenue 6 on Jan 28 around 2:28pm, was of course captured on video and uploaded on social media.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the lady had just discovered her husband was unfaithful to her and was upset after they engaged in a bitter argument. Apparently, the 45-year-old had also mutilated her body — more than 30 knife wounds were found on her legs, thighs, and arms.
When SCDF officers arrived at the suspenseful scene, some of them deployed a safety air pack at the bottom of the building as a precautionary measure, while others deflected the woman’s demands to remove the air pack and attempted to persuade her to leave her precarious perch. At least 10 police patrol vehicles and two fire engines were present, and the block was cordoned off.
In a dramatic save, the woman was eventually pulled to safety by SCDF officers and taken to a hospital. Investigators later retrieved her 20cm-long kitchen knife.
A police spokesperson revealed that she was arrested for possessing a dangerous weapon, and for attempting suicide. Investigations are currently ongoing.
