In July 2011, the decomposed body of Celine Ng was found in Clementi Woods Park.
The 36-year-old, a real estate agent, had been reported missing on May 26, her birthday, by her housemate, Ang Soo Hoon, a derivatives trader.
The park was just 400 meters away from the victim’s apartment.
Today, four years later, Ang was sentenced to 12.5 years in jail for killing her roommate, lying about it, and stealing $1,000 from her.
According to this Straits Times report, Ang’s version of events is that she was asked by her roommate to “help her die”.
When she refused, the victim supposedly hurled insults at her, which provoked Ang to armlock and strangle her friend of 16 years.
“Over the next two days, Ang drove around Singapore trying to find a place to dispose Ms Ng’s body. She then lied to Ms Ng’s family to make them believe that she could have gone overseas,” says the report.
“She kept up the act by making phone calls to locate the ‘missing’ woman and even accompanied Ms Ng’s mother to lodge a missing person’s report.”
