Even though durian prices have apparently spiked up to a 33-year high, people still love their thorny fruits. Except perhaps one Facebook user, whose recent experience with worm-infested durians may have prompted a sabbatical from the king of fruits for a while.
It all started out with a durian craving, according to her Facebook post — her family went over to a fruit stall in Chong Pang to eat their fill, and ended up getting two for $30, even though the seller got a little upset towards the end because they didn’t buy the more expensive $18/kg ones.
But when they got home, to her horror, she allegedly discovered worms hidden in the durian flesh (she described them as “crunchy bits”). Outraged, they went back to the stall, only to get a nonchalant, unapologetic answer from the seller. So they demanded a refund and eventually got their money back.
After her Facebook post went viral, netizens flooded in with stories of their own awful experiences from that particular Chong Pang stall — most of the complaints seemed to be about the bad service and the poor quality of durians.
