Add this to your ever-growing list of scams to watch out for in Singapore. Apparently, a couple has been going around scamming kind-hearted souls with their “lost wallet” excuse. A Facebook user, who warned members of the public about the scam in a viral post, claimed that the well-dressed couple were from China.

It’s not the newest trick in the book, but it seems to be working for scammers who continue to manipulate others with it. Being smartly dressed helps in the convincing too.

Here’s how the scam works. According to her, the man will say that the pair lost their wallets and they need cash to take transport into Malaysia to meet a business partner. The lady, his “secretary”, will be on the lookout as the man hands you his genuine-looking name card. They won’t hesitate to use all kinds of ways (or perhaps even sob stories) to convince you to give them some money.

Apparently, the duo were first spotted at Marina Bay Link Mall, followed by a second sighting at Tanjong Pagar MRT.

But if you work nowhere near the CBD area, you may still encounter them in other neighborhoods, as netizens shared similar experiences with a couple they claimed looked like the one in the picture, as well as other scammers.
