AXS machines, for those who have never been anywhere near them, are self-service stations scattered across the island offering payment services. Most people use them to pay the bills, which is what one Facebook user did when she encountered a scammer and almost fell for his tricks.

Apparently, she was in line behind him to use the machine, and subsequently realized that his transactions kept getting cancelled. Then she heard him say on the phone something along the lines of, “it’s okay, there’s a lady behind me, it won’t time out”.

When her turn came, he walked away and stood off in the distance. So she went ahead and paid her bills on the machine — but when she got to the ‘Make Payment’ page, the man’s transaction amounting to about $300 appeared on the screen as well. Luckily, she noticed something was wrong and cancelled his transaction. After she was done paying her bills, she turned towards him and silently accused him; in return, he bowed and mouthed ‘sorry’ to her.

But that’s not all. To her horror, she discovered him back at the AXS machine after she went to get food. This time, there was an old lady behind him, and he recreated the same scenario. She then went up to the lady and offered to help cancel his transaction. Unfortunately, he had fled by the time she was done.

So she did the next best thing — she posted her experience online to warn others not to fall for a scam like this.
