A woman who poured scalding water onto her ex-boyfriend’s groin was sentenced today to four years’ jail for causing grievous hurt.

Zareena Begum P.A.M Basheer Ahamed, 50, plans to appeal her conviction which came three years after she poured a mug of boiling water onto her unidentified boyfriend because she thought he was cheating on her with another woman.

At the time, she also told him to ask his new girlfriend to fetch aloe vera for his injuries, which ended up requiring three surgeries including a skin graft, according to prosecutors.

The man ended up in the hospital for 26 days for second-and third-degree burns and could not work for six months.

Zareena is free on bail and will appeal her case. She argued in court that the incident was an accident that took place when the man pulled her arm.

The couple had been together 11 years although the man was already married. Her suspicions about his infidelity began in 2015. Two years later, she found messages from another woman on his phone and poured the water onto his groin while he was asleep, telling him that it served him right and he should ask his “new girlfriend to get the aloe vera,” prosecutors said.
