Woman charged with the murder of her father in Sengkang is remanded for psychiatric observation

The 31-year-old woman who was charged with murdering her father on Nov. 4 will be remanded for psychiatric observation. 

The decision is according to a court order today.

Tan Qiu Yan was charged last week of one count of murder. The deceased, 63-year-old Tan Ah Bang was her adoptive father. 

She was arrested last week for allegedly causing his death in a Sengkang flat between 8pm and 5:25am last Friday. 

By the time the police and ambulance had arrived, he was pronounced dead. He had also suffered multiple wounds. 

The police prosecutor today asked for Tan to be remanded for psychiatric observation, noting that the case involved a criminal charge which is punishable by the death penalty. 

She will be remanded in the women’s prison cluster in Changi Prison for three weeks. 

Tan was present in court via a video link where she had a Mandarin interpreter. She has yet to have a lawyer or legal representation.
