On Tuesday, Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at the Singapore Cruise Centre observed “anomalies” in the scanned images of a backpack and a luggage bag that belonged to a 41-year-old permanent resident. Upon further probing, it was discovered that the woman had stashed seven packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes in a sanitary pad package and hidden it among other clothes in the luggage.

According to a Facebook post by the ICA, the authority said: “These methods of concealment are a cause for concern as similar methods may be used by people [with] ill intent to smuggle security items into Singapore.”

It declared it would continue to conduct security checks to stop smuggling attempts into Singapore, and subsequently referred the case to Singapore Customs for further investigation.
