In a Facebook post on Monday, Minister of Law and Foreign Affairs K. Shanmugam talked about receiving an email from a lady, requesting money for her wedding. Writing to him as her Member of Parliament (MP), she explained that there was pressure from her family to hold a nice wedding, but she was short on cash.
The request left the minister reflecting on the struggle to live up to others’ expectations.
“I felt bad for her – as a result of pressure from family, peers, she is going to get into debt over her wedding. And she had got to a stage where she was prepared to ask someone whom she did not know at all.”
